Account Information

When you register for an account, we collect:

  • First name and surname
  • Email address
  • Contact telephone number (optional)
  • Password (stored securely using one-way hashing)

Search & Usage Data

When you use our service, we collect:

  • Vehicle registration marks (VRMs) and VINs searched
  • Date and time of each search
  • IP address
  • Results returned from vehicle lookups and PNC checks

Cookies

We use essential cookies for login and session management. These cookies are necessary for the website to function and cannot be switched off.

Payment Information

When you purchase a Full Vehicle History Check or subscribe to a business account:

  • Payment card details are collected and processed securely by Stripe — we never see or store your full card number
  • If you choose to save your card for future purchases, it is stored by Stripe against your customer account
  • We store your order history, including vehicle registration, amount paid, and report data

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your personal data to:

  • Provide and maintain our vehicle checking service
  • Authenticate your account and manage your sessions
  • Display your search history within your account
  • Process payments and deliver purchased reports
  • Send you transactional emails relating to your searches and purchases (e.g. report results, payment confirmations)
  • Send you updates and recommendations about our services, where you have opted in
  • Prevent and detect criminal activity, fraud, and misuse of our service
  • Comply with legal obligations

4. Legal Basis for Processing

We process your personal data on the following legal bases:

  • Contract: Processing necessary to provide the service you have registered for, and to process payments and deliver reports
  • Legitimate interests: Fraud prevention, security, service improvement, and sending transactional communications about services you have used
  • Consent: Where you opt in to receive updates and recommendations from us. You can withdraw this consent at any time by updating your account preferences or using the unsubscribe link in any email
  • Legal obligation: Logging searches for the prevention and detection of crime

5. Third-Party Services

We share data with the following third parties in order to provide our service:

  • Vehicle Data Global (VDG): We send VRM/VIN data to retrieve vehicle details, PNC stolen check results, and full vehicle history reports
  • Stripe: Payment processing — card details are sent directly to Stripe and never pass through our servers. Stripe may store card details for future use where you have opted in
  • Cloudflare: Security and bot protection services, including Turnstile challenge verification
  • Fingerprint.com: Browser identification for bot detection and fraud prevention on vehicle searches
  • SendGrid: Email delivery for account verification, password resets, report links, and service communications
  • Microsoft Azure: Our database and hosting infrastructure is provided by Microsoft Azure, with data stored in Western Europe

6. Data Retention

  • Account data: Retained for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion at any time.
  • Search logs: Retained indefinitely for the prevention and detection of criminal activity, as required by our data processing obligations.
  • Purchased reports: Stored indefinitely against your account (or email address) so you can access them in future.
  • Payment records: Transaction records retained for 6 years for HMRC and audit purposes.
  • Vehicle cache data: Cached lookup results are retained temporarily and expire at the end of each day.
  • Marketing preferences: Your opt-in choice is stored against your account. You can change this at any time from your account settings or by contacting us.

7. Your Rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Rectify inaccurate personal data
  • Request erasure of your personal data (subject to legal retention requirements)
  • Object to processing of your personal data
  • Data portability
  • Lodge a complaint with the ICO (ico.org.uk)

8. Security

We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data, including:

  • Passwords are hashed using industry-standard BCrypt and are never stored in plain text
  • All data is transmitted over HTTPS
  • Database access is restricted and secured
